What is Libra?
Libra is a family of lamps that can manage light in a totally free and flexible way. This is possible thanks to the presence of a gyroscope connected to the cables of the lampshade, which, sensing their movement, distributes the intensity of light according to where the inclination takes place.
The user is therefore free to manage the light as he/she likes through simple physical interaction.
Flexibility
Flexibility is guaranteed thanks to the combination of gyroscope and lampshade. The gyroscope is in fact connected to the cables that allow the lampshade to tilt during the interaction with the user. Furthermore, the shape of the lampshade is extremely functional. The double inclination of the walls allows the light to reflect according to the movement of the lampshade.
Most of the components are made of die-cast aluminium. The lampshade, obtained by cold moulding a sheet of aluminium and then anodised, and some components of the gyroscope assembly made of stainless steel, stand out. The materials and workmanship have been chosen in accordance with Artemide’s philosophy of encouraging a sustainable choice of resources.
Prototype
The gyroscope is able to measure the inclination at which it has been positioned and return an output number proportional to this inclination, measured in degrees.
The programming software reads the tilt of the sensor to make one quarter of the LED strip light up, one quarter leave it dark and make a fade in the middle two quarters.
