Paygy is a piggy bank created for the purpose of raising awareness among children in the financial management of their savings.
Target user
Paygy is designed for children aged 10 to 16 years old. Of course, also parents are considered. In fact they would like to raise awareness their son in the management of his/her own money and its value, but at the same time to allow him/her more freedom.
How it works
Paygy is able to calculate the total value of coins accumulated inside it thanks to the presence of five infrared sensors, one for each coin to be detected. The specific used components are: TCRT5000 x 5, Arduino Nano 3.0, Breadboard Mini.
Paygy App
Thanks to the app's support, the user is able to set goals to be achieved and check his/her progresses.
Once the goal is reached, the user can withdraw the equivalent money and unlock an achievement.
Prototype
The final prototype is the result of a long study regarding the internal system.
Multiple tests and several prototypes were made to analyze the inclination of the plane on which the coins slide and especially the precise size of the slots. The final prototype consists of seven 3D printed elements.
The infrared sensors were glued to a component and afterwards soldered in series.
The wires from the infrared sensors terminate in the breadboard where the Arduino Nano is connected. Regarding the application, this was designed on Figma and then imported into ProtoPie to be able to communicate with Arduino.
